A man was found dead at the sports grounds in Woodbridge; PD homicide investigation

WOODBRIDGE, Connecticut (WTNH) – A Derby man was arrested Thursday in connection with the homicidal death of a West Haven man found at Woodbridge Athletic Fields.

Police arrested Jorden Rudel, 24, of Derby on Thursday July 1.

He is charged with murder, theft and theft.

He was presented for arraignment Thursday afternoon in New Haven Superior Court and remains in jail in lieu of bail which has been set at $ 2,000,000.

The investigation remains active and continuous.


Woodbridge Police and State Police are investigating a homicide in the Pease Road and Woodbridge Athletic Fields area on Tuesday.

Woodbridge PD says a body was discovered by a jogger around 6 a.m. on the Pease Road / Alegi Athletic Fields playground property at 160 Pease Road.

The male victim was found with gunshot wounds. He has been identified as Rondell Atkinson, 33, of West Haven.

Police said there was no immediate threat to the community.

Police are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and are attempting to locate his vehicle, a gray 2016 Hyundai Sonata, with license plate: BC15394.

The park has been reopened to the public.
