Assam signs 7 MoUs with industry giants in various fields

The government of Assam on Monday signed seven agreements in various fields with a host of giants including Microsoft, Google, Larsen & Toubro and Tata Group companies.

On behalf of the government, Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM) signed the agreements.

The Artisans Employment and Training Directorate signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Info Edge (India), better known as Naukri.com, in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, other ministers of state and high officials.

The Assam Tourism Development Corporation has signed compacts with the Union Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship, and the Tata Community Initiative Trust’s TATA Strive Skills Development Initiatives and the Indian Hotels Company.

In addition, Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam’s Green Energy Ltd for the production of 1,000 MW of solar power.

Speaking on the occasion, Sarma described the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding as a momentous occasion, as the associations will help harness the potential of the state in the sectors of renewable energy, skills development, tourism and the hotel industry.

Thanking the companies for coming forward and partnering with the Assam government, he said the agreements will be a way forward to form strategic collaborations for transformational development at multiple levels of the state.

The MoU with Microsoft will pave the way for capacity building for young people in Assam Skills Development Centers across the state.

Microsoft, through its MDSP (Microsoft Diversity Skilling Program) modules, will work with disadvantaged young people to ensure their active participation in the labor market.

The objective of the MoU with Google India is to support the government of Assam to train young people with ready-to-use digital and business skills. The Google Career Certificate course will provide an empowering professional connection to qualified young people through a cohort of potential employers.

L&T will offer knowledge and support to establish training setup and execute greenfield projects in the construction industry.

The objective of the Memorandum of Understanding with the Health Sector Skills Council (HSSC) is to mobilize unemployed young people in Assam for vocational training.

In addition to training the young unemployed, placement will be provided for industrial jobs within a month of the end of the training.

The agreement with Naukri.com will provide an online platform for young unemployed people to upload their profile to the digital domain in order to attract potential employers.

The MoU between APDCL and SJVNL Green Energy Limited (SGEL) will target the development of solar power projects with an installed capacity of 1000 MW.

The pact signed between Assam Tourism Development Corporation and TATA Strive Skill Development Initiatives and others will set up a hospitality skills center of excellence for training the youth of the state.

The Chief Minister hailed all industry partners for the successful ventures in Assam and expressed his best wishes for the arrangements to be a great success.
