Two Butte Central doubles teams went 2-0 to highlight the Maroons’ performance on Saturday at the Bitterroot Invitational tennis tournament.
Drew Badovinac and Gage Guldseth teamed two wins two games on the boys’ side. The Cousins, playing the No. 1 doubles slot, lost their first game of each match and battled to win a 10-8 tiebreaker both times.
Playing doubles No. 3, Central’s Kate Johnston and Lucy Kelly won twice. They won in straight sets before claiming their second win in a single match.
The action was reduced to a professional six-game set at the end of the day. A game for British Columbia’s Nick Lester was not completed due to rain.
The Maroons’ other win that day came from Mollie Drew, who went 1-1 to double No.2.
Boys Nos. 1 and 2 played in Hamilton. Girls Nos. 1 and 2 competed in Corvallis, and boys and girls Nos. 3 and 4 competed in Stevensville. Every individual or team in BC started at least two games in the day.
“Today was another day to provide some good competitive play for our kids,” said BC coach Becky Hancock. “It was a long day, but everyone hung on, competed and improved. Drew and Gage had some great games, which is good to see as we head into the post-season.
The Maroons host East Helena on Thursday at Stodden Park.
