BEARS OPEN UCA TENNIS COURTS WITH PAIR OF INTERSTATE RIVALS

CONWAY, Ark. – As the Arkansas landscape sheds its snow, it’s time to head home for a pair of exclusive home games against national competition for UCA tennis.

The Bears finally have a chance to see some double-header action at home this weekend, as they’re set for a double-header tomorrow against Arkansas Tech at 10 a.m. and Arkansas State at 1:30 p.m.

These two matches will be fun, as the tennis team is about to face two opponents they know very well. UCA will take their team back in time as they take on the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns to relive their Gulf South Conference days. However, it will be the first time since 2006 that these two teams will meet in a game. UCA won 7-2 to continue their 3-0 win in the all-time series in this game. So while both of these teams have history, this will be a complete overhaul as UCA hopes to continue bragging rights. To continue their winning streak, the Bears will look to some of their most successful leaders of the year. This list includes the second year Jaeun Leewho is 4-2 this season, junior Fuka Nonoyamawho is 3-3 and senior Yada Vasupongchaiwhich is 2-2.

After battling an old friend in the early stages tomorrow, UCA will face a constant rival in Arkansas State. This is a rescheduled game from two weekends ago, as they flipped the location from Springfield, Mo to Conway. These two teams have become yearly rivals, as they have faced each other every year since 2011. During that span, the Bears have seven wins over ASU’s four, including UCA winning seven in a row since 2015. The Bears will have a major test to maintain that streak, as the Red Wolves entered UCA’s first fall invite. In that first tournament, the Bears were 1-2 against ASU with the only game going to Lee. However, most UCAs haven’t competed against their interstate counterparts and will be a strong asset in the upcoming game. One player to watch in particular is junior Chunxi Xin. Xin has had plenty of success against ASU and is coming off a big win over UAB’s No. 1 hitter.

The first game of the day will be against ATU at 10 a.m., followed by ASU at 1:30 p.m. Follow @ucaTennis social media for updates and come see the Bears in action on the tennis courts at ‘UCA.
