TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have officially severed ties with Antonio Brown. The team say they terminated the contract of the Mercurial receiver who claimed he was sacked in the middle of a game for not playing due to an ankle injury. The Bucs announced the move today, a day after Brown broke his silence over a bizarre exit from last Sunday’s victory over the New York Jets. Brown removed his jersey, shoulder pads, undershirt and gloves, then left the field after a trade with coach Bruce Arians, who later said Brown was no longer on the squad.

CHICAGO (AP) – The Chicago Bears have placed quarterback Justin Fields on the reserve / COVID-19 roster, likely sidelining him for the finals and ending his rookie season. The Bears expected Fields to start in Minnesota on Sunday after missing the previous two games with an ankle injury. This plan is now in doubt. It has been an eventful season for Fields. He has shown promising flashes and room for improvement while dealing with injuries. Fields completed 58.9% of his passes for 1,870 yards. He has 10 interceptions and seven touchdowns with a 73.2 passer rating.

BOSTON (AP) – Goaltender Tuukka Rask (TOO’-kah rask) is set to return to the Boston Bruins after signing a professional trial agreement with Providence of the American Hockey League. Rask is currently a free agent, but has spent 14 seasons with the Bruins and is the franchise leader in terms of wins. He’s just coming back from hip labrum surgery in the offseason. The 2013-14 Vezina Trophy winner has been training at the Bruins’ training center for over two months. He says he expects to play two games at Providence before making a deal to join the Bruins.

NO DATE (AP) – The NCAA has updated its pandemic protocols for athletes and winter sports teams to reflect the latest CDC guidelines. The biggest recommendation is a booster for those who are beyond two months after receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, five months after receiving the Pfizer vaccine, or six months after receiving the Moderna vaccine. For these athletes and staff, a booster is required to be considered fully immunized. The NCAA also says that five days of quarantine are suggested after a positive test instead of 10 days. This matches recent federal guidelines from the CDC.

NEW YORK (AP) – Former acting New York Mets general manager Zack Scott was cleared of impaired driving charges resulting from his arrest last August after attending a fundraiser at team owner Steve Cohen. Scott’s attorney, Bruce Bendish, said a White Plains court judge acquitted Zack Scott of all criminal charges against him today. Scott was arrested on August 31 after police found him asleep while driving his sport utility vehicle at a traffic light. Scott was put on leave from the Mets and later fired. Scott said he was grateful for the verdict.
