REGINA – The City of Regina is preparing for the reopening of athletics and ball fields next week.
These spaces are authorized to open on June 22, as part of the first part of phase four of the Reopen Saskatchewan plan.
City officials said staff were brought back this week to begin maintenance of the ball fields.
Some community-operated ball parks in Regina will be ready to reopen on Monday. These include:

Broad and 9th Avenue North

Colomb Park

Kiwanis Park
-
Kiwanis North Park

Lions Park
-
Pacers Park
-
Optimist Park

Douglas Park
All other ball fields, sports fields and lawn bowling grounds will open for scheduled use on Saturday, June 27.
The city is working with sports organizations to ensure that public health guidelines are followed by athletes, coaches and parents.
“They had to develop their own regiment back to training,” said Rod Schmidt, director of sports facilities for the city of Regina.
“They have to work with their provincial or national organizations to make sure they identify the disinfection required for the equipment, no equipment sharing, hand sanitization before they come, if you’re sick don’t come, a lot of standard things.
Reservation procedures for sports fields and ball fields will be in place upon reopening.
All hygiene and physical distancing guidelines and recommendations are encouraged when using these spaces.
