John R. Fields, III, died on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at his home in Hedgesville, WV, after prolonged illness.
He was born in Hagerstown, MD, the son of John R. Fields, Jr. and Minnie Pauline Bowman Fields.
He graduated from North Hagerstown High School in 1959. He served in the US Army Signal Corps (E-4) from 1960 to 1963. He was a long-time employee of Miller-Liskey Electric Co. and the M / L Electric Co. before retiring. of Crum Electric Co. in 2007.
John was active in the Hagerstown City and Washington County Fire Departments. He served as a former chief of the Pioneer Hook & Ladder Company and a training officer with the Funkstown Fire Department. He was a historian, deputy chief, and life member of the Washington County Emergency Air Unit (Co. 25). John was a member of Hagerstown Elks Lodge 378, Hagerstown Moose Lodge, American Legion Post 211, Williamsport Redmen, and Marlowe Ruritan.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda M. Andrews Fields; sons, John “David” Fields (Donna), Jeffrey S. Fields (Kate) and Brian A. Fields (Rachel); grandchildren, Jeanie L. Felty (Adam), Abigail G. Fields and Nathaniel J. Fields; great-grandchildren, Finley D. Felty; brother-in-law, Joseph W. Resh, Sr .; nephews, Joseph W. Resh, Jr., and Jerry L. Resh.
John was predeceased by his parents and sister, Judy A. Resh, of Hagerstown, MD.
The family are planning a celebration of her life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Ln., Kearneysville, WV 25430.
