MARYVILLE, Mo. – At her regular meeting on November 17, Superintendent Maryville R-II, Becky Albrecht, shared with the school board additional information obtained since their October meeting regarding the possibility of building a tennis.
Albrecht said he met with a representative from McConnell and Associates, a firm specializing in the field, and discussed the pros and cons of three possible locations for a potential new complex: the lower front parking lot (west), the training ground of football and the lot south of the football training ground. They also discussed the costs associated with the project.
“One of the things we learned from talking to the experts on site is that this is probably a little bigger project than we might have guessed,” said Albrecht on the Board of Directors.
Albrecht indicated that the best location to build a six-field complex is the current football training ground, but it presents multiple challenges as it would require road access and toilets, as well as a halving of the field. current training. Albrecht further said that the initial cost estimate is around $ 150,000 for the construction of each court, bringing the total figure for this alone to almost $ 1 million, rather than the $ 500,000 in his rough initial estimate from last month. These costs include, but are not limited to, fencing, specialized concrete needed for the courts, court lining and lighting.
“This is obviously a doable project and a project that we can nurture,” said Albrecht. “But it costs a bit more and it’s a bit more involved in the ripple effect in relocation and other amenities.”
No decision has been made by council and no timetable has been set to bring the matter back to council.

- Albrecht also presented the school board with information about the test-to-stay option for the district. After a brief discussion, no decision has been made to change the way the district currently handles COVID-19 testing.
- The board approved the addition of a part-time teaching position (approximately 350 hours at $ 25 per hour) to teach health science students at Northwest Technical School the programming necessary for industry-recognized accreditation of certified nursing assistants. This will be a one-year post only, as one of the teachers at the technical school is currently in the process of acquiring this teaching certification.
- The board appointed Rodney Bade, who is a college science teacher and high school track and field and cross country coach, to be the district representative on the Lake Mozingo Recreation Park advisory board.
- The board also approved the addition of a $ 75 per semester stipend for Maryville teachers involved in the Educators Rising program which provides mentorship and training to technical school students. The allowance is a three-year commitment that will be fully funded by a DESE Grow Your Own grant in the amount of $ 10,000. The number of these scholarships will vary from year to year depending on the number of students enrolled in the program and placed in Maryville. The maximum cost would be $ 8,100 over three years. The grant will also cover certification tests for students after successfully completing the program to become a paraprofessional.
- The district also received approval to continue the seamless summer option for foodservice until June 2022.
