Minneapolis Park & ​​Recreation Board: Morgan Ave tennis courts rebuilt and open for play


The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB), Love Morgan Courts, Support the Courts, US Tennis Association, elected officials from the City of Minneapolis and Hennepin County, and tennis players from Minneapolis met on September 12 2021 to celebrate the reconstruction and reopening of the Morgan Avenue tennis courts.

The reconstruction included fencing, netting posts and netting, a new pavement with color coating and stripes, as well as an improved entrance path.

“These courts have been an important part of this park for over 80 years,” Superintendent Al Bangoura said during the grand opening ceremony. “We look forward to many years of people enjoying tennis and watching a new generation learn and play. And I say that not only as the Superintendent of the Minneapolis Parks System, but as an avid tennis player and fan myself. -same. “

The rebuilding of Morgan Courts was one of several projects in which the Park Board partnered with Support the Courts to help renovate and rebuild tennis courts in city parks.

In addition to Love Morgan Courts and Support the Courts, several other organizations and agencies have contributed to court planning and funding, including:

  • The American Tennis Association
  • Hennepin County Youth Sports Program
  • The Washburn High School Foundation
  • Lynnhurst Neighborhood Association
  • Other individual donors

The courts, located in Minnehaha Regional Park at Morgan Ave South on West 52nd Streets, are heavily used by the Minneapolis tennis community, including InnerCity Tennis and the Washburn Tennis teams.
