SILVER SPRING, Md. (WDVM) – Montgomery Parks recently completed and opened a newly renovated sports field in Silver Spring at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Park.
The county has recognized the growing need for outdoor recreation areas like parks and sports fields as COVID-19 regulations ease to allow low-to-medium risk sports.
“Sports fields are in high demand in Montgomery County,” said Cliff Driver, Montgomery Parks Sports Fields Program Manager. “This renovation brings the Martin Luther King Jr. Football Field up to industry standards for safety, playability and community expectations.”
Permit applications are available on a first-come, first-served basis to reserve sports fields, requiring all use to adhere to COVID guidelines:
- All sports participants, regardless of age, must respect the face coverage requirement and social distancing and hygiene requirements.
- A maximum of 50 people can attend, including staff, coaches, players and parents, guardians or immediate family.
- All tournaments, championships and events are strictly prohibited unless an approval letter is issued by the county.
- Gambling and games with teams from outside of Maryland, Virginia or the District of Columbia are prohibited.
