New plans for Crosses Penn tennis courts in Burnham-on-Sea

SEDGEMOOR District Council is considering divestment of the site of the two former tennis courts at Crosses Penn, Burnham-on-Sea.

The area which is approximately 1518m2 is proposed to be transferred to Crosses Penn Community Sports Trust by way of a 25 year lease to convert the existing tennis courts into two multi-purpose play areas.

Proposed plans will include a tennis court, five-a-side football pitch, netball and basketball courts, as well as an exercise track around the perimeter.

Specifically, each pitch will feature the following:

yard one

  • 2 heavy duty square rear goal ends with basketball hoops and backboards.
  • 4m high medium duty sports fence with a 1.2m high bounce at the ends of the goal
  • 2 x pedestrian doors
  • 3m high medium duty sports fence with a 1.2m high bounce over the length
  • Lateral and dividing fence
  • Shown with sports line markings for football and basketball

Court Two

  • Medium duty sports fence 4m high on both short sides
  • 2 x pedestrian doors
  • 3m high medium duty sports fence on remaining long side
  • Shown with sport line markings for tennis and netball

There is a legal process to follow and members of the public who wish to comment on or object to the proposals are asked to do so in writing by 5 p.m. on March 29.

The proposals and any objections or comments will then form a report to be discussed at an executive meeting, probably in May.

A plan of the proposed land can be obtained by contacting Mr T Mander on 01278 435331 or email: tim.mander@Sedgemoor.gov.uk.

Alternatively, a plan is available for inspection during normal office hours from Bridgwater House Reception, King Square, Bridgwater TA6 3AR.
