Nutley and Newark Sports Fields Get $ 1.5 Million Facelift in Essex County

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ – A $ 1.5 million ‘modernization’ effort at two Essex County parks will help local baseball and softball players line up these hard-to-manage Grounders, have officials announced last week.

The indoor fields of Nutley’s Yanticaw Park softball field and two Little League baseball fields at Branch Brook Park (Newark / Belleville) now have synthetic playing surfaces. The new turf will solve flooding issues at all three fields and help ensure “modern and safe playing conditions,” Essex County officials said.

Work in the fields began in June and was completed in three months, officials said.

Bowman Consulting of Newark was awarded a contract for $ 61,920 to design the improvements to the athletic fields. The Landtek Group of Amityville, New York, was awarded a contract for $ 1,498,945 to carry out the construction work. The Essex County Public Works Department monitored the project. Funding was provided through a grant from the Essex County Recreation and Open Space Trust Fund and the Essex County Capital Budget.
