Fast forward to the 2023 winter season and the initial phase of Rainbow Beach Sporting Fields should be ready for action. The project will introduce district-level facilities for the communities of Lake Cathie and Bonny Hills. The community can expect, in the first stage, the delivery of grass playgrounds with flood lighting, the main access and parking lot, the accessible playground, one of the fields multipurpose, temporary amenities and storage for user groups, connections with surrounding trails, viewing shelters and landscaping. The first $ 6 million milestone is funded by developer contributions collected as part of the Rainbow Beach Estate subdivision. The complex will be located directly behind Lake Cathie Public School. Port Macquarie-Hastings council says future steps are subject to funding. The complete facility was designed to include four soccer fields, two cricket grounds, one AFL pitch, four multi-purpose basketball / netball courts, two cricket practice nets and an accessible playground. The start of construction on the first stage is listed as an immediate priority project in the council’s recreational action plan, which provides a framework for the provision of recreational facilities throughout the region. The council says the grounds will provide an opportunity to attract sports teams and visitors both locally and from the state at large and relieve demand on existing sports facilities.
