Somerset County Park Commission reopens Green and Colonial Park tennis courts
Tennis and pickleball courts open with COVID precautions
SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ – The Somerset County Park Commission will be opening the Green Knoll Tennis Center and Colonial Park tennis courts for personal, league and educational use for the 2021 season, from March 27 to October 22. The Eastern Chapter of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) recently named the park. Commission as Member Organization of the Year for the quality and beauty of its tennis courts, as well as for the resources and services available to guests and the community.
Green Knoll, at 587 Garretson Road in Bridgewater, has a total of 10 tennis courts and Colonial Park, on Colonial Drive in Franklin, has eight courts, two of which are striped for pickleball. In total, there are four Colonial Drive pickleball courts for walk-in games and tournaments. All facilities are all weather outdoor courts and are lighted for evening and night play.
The Green Knoll courts will be open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and weekends from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Colonial Park grounds will be open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and weekends from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The Green Knoll Tennis Center and Colonial Park Tennis courts can be booked by calling the attendant at (908) 722-1200 x5021 during playing hours. Messages left when the attendant is assisting players or otherwise unavailable will be returned as soon as possible . The fees are $ 8 per hour on weekdays until 5 p.m. and $ 10 on weekdays after 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays. The courts will be available free of charge on a first come, first served basis on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. from March 27 to June 23 and from September 7 to October 22.
Until the courts open on March 27, residents can ask questions or schedule court time by calling or visiting the Green Knoll Tennis Courts at:
- Saturday March 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Tuesday March 23 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Thursday March 25 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) and Pickleball League application forms can be obtained online at somersetcountyparks.org/activities/tennis/tennis.html or by calling the Green Knoll Tennis Center at ( 908) 722-1200 x5021. League registrations are $ 50 and standard field fees are due at time of play.
All players and spectators will be required to adhere to all applicable restrictions and limitations imposed by Executive Orders and the like as well as USTA’s COVID-19 precautions, including social distancing and masks for spectators. Somerset County Park Commission manages nearly 15,000 acres of county-owned open space, which is visited by 2 million park users each year. Five golf courses have three driving ranges, a pitch and putt and a recreational putting. Other attractions include an equestrian center, an environmental education center, two tennis courts, an outdoor swimming pool, a pedal boat, a garden of stones and rare plants, an award-winning rose garden, an arboretum and a sensory and fragrant garden. Six county parks also offer amenities such as athletic fields, picnic facilities, biking trails, fishing, birding, cross-country skiing, and hiking.
