For the editor:
Today, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., there will be an opportunity to discuss new plans for Baldwin Park, located on Flower Lake Avenue near the Korean and Vietnam War Veterans Memorial. Plans include the removal of tennis courts.
I hope the village will reconsider abolishing the courts. Unfortunately, these courts have not been maintained for some time. he was “play at your own risk” because the surface was so “unequal.” Even still, neighborhood kids and tennis players were often seen on the courts.
Baldwin Park, unlike the single courts at Ampersand and Pisgah Park, has two courts.
It is beneficial to have at least two courts in one location to increase and monitor the flow of those waiting to play. It is easier to find vacant or soon to be vacant land at Baldwin Courts as there are two lots.
In 2022, it’s not just tennis players looking for courts; Pickleball has become very popular and with some minor temporary modifications pickleball can also be played on these courts just like basketball etc.
I believe these courts are important to neighborhood families, tennis and pickleball players and should be refurbished as part of the Baldwin Park Improvement Plan.
If you have any concerns, please come to Harrietstown Auditorium today from 5-6.30pm to voice your concerns.
