CHESTER WEST TWP. – A pavilion to serve the Voice of America MetroPark sports fields is now open.

The UC Health West Chester Hospital Field Pavilion is a two-story structure with 2,855 square feet of interior space as well as another 3,282 square feet of roof space, which includes porch areas.

The country house has a washroom, concession area, storage, and workout rooms on the main level. A press box occupies the top floor.

It has a one-acre lawn, a 3,500 square foot outdoor observation deck and approximately 400 new paved parking spaces.

The project has been under consideration since a partnership between MetroParks of Butler County and West Chester Hospital was announced almost four years ago after 22 sports fields opened.

“Through a partnership with UC Health and the support of our local lawmakers, this project will be a great addition to the sports complex and a positive economic impact for the region,” said Gregory Amend, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MetroParks.

Since the sports fields opened in 2014, two have been fitted with artificial turf and lights have been added to make the fields more usable for longer during the season.

Land use for tournaments had an economic impact of over $ 12 million in 2015 and 2016. Figures for 2017 are not yet available.

The impact in the region has come from hotel stays, meals purchased, items purchased, attractions visited and other factors.

The project cost $ 3.2 million, which includes the pavilion, site work, parking, landscaping and utilities. It was paid for with a $ 500,000 state grant, a $ 1 million partnership with UC Health, and MetroParks funds.

This season, officials from MetroParks and the Butler County Visitors Bureau have booked 17 regional, state or national tournaments, which are expected to draw more than 100,000 athletes and spectators to the park. This figure does not include the grounds reserved for practice during the week.

A grand grand opening will be held Friday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sports Complex, located in 7850 VOA Park Drive, off Cox Road. The public is invited.
