Verdon Fosse Legacy Announces Allen Fields and Katherine Winter as New Leaders


Alongside the Founder and Artistic Director, Nicole Fosse, ALLEN FIELDS has been named Director of Creative Development and Catherine Winter has been appointed Development Coordinator of THE VERDON FOSSE LEGACY LLC. Just as Legacy presents “Sweet Gwen Suite” at NEW YORK CITY CENTER’S FALL FOR DANCE, the first DANCIN’ revival arrives and their Jazz FOSSE® Advanced Professional dance classes are presented independently for the first time. The two will work side by side Nicole Fosse to promote the expansion and development of THE VERDON FOSSE LEGACY.


The mission of Verdon Fosse Legacy LLC is to promote, preserve and protect the artistic and intellectual property of Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon, including copyright in dances and trademark rights in names Bob Fosse® and FOSSE®.


Through the Bob Fosse Master Class Series, Legacy-sanctioned reconstructors teach style, technique, and work ethic to students at dance schools and colleges around the world. The Legacy wishes to encourage and educate performers, directors, and choreographers, as well as scholars and students interested in American film and musical theater. We partner with universities, dance studios, museums, libraries, publishing houses, film screenings and non-profit organizations to honor the work of Gwen Verdon and Bob Fosse.


Recognized legacy reconstructors and guest artists work with an elite group of professional dancers to notate, reconstruct and archive Fosse repertoire from stage and screen. Our goal is to rebuild Bob Fosse‘s choreography with original intent and integrity.


The Legacy Verdon Fosse manages the licensing of Bob Fossefor non-profit and for-profit commercial purposes. The Legacy protects the image and work of Gwen Verdon and Bob Fosse and owns the trademarks of FOSSE® and Bob Fosse®.


Allen Fields is originally from North Carolina. Fields began her dance training at the age of thirteen and officially began her classical ballet training after winning the prestigious Sanford Scholarship to attend the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. A film of him at this time is preserved in the archives of the Library of Congress. He then continued his training with a scholarship to the American Ballet Theater School and Ballet Arts Carnegie Hall. Fields then danced with the powerful company of the 80s-90s Cleveland San Jose Ballet, Ohio Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, Ballet Du Nord, France, dancing the works of Balanchine, DeMille, Tudor, Lubovitch, Ashton, Limon and many others. . Fields took his first directorship building Minnesota Ballet into a national and international touring company under his 15-year tenure from 1992-2007.

Fields created many of her own original choreographies and commissions. Its two Nutcracker productions have toured the Midwest and Canada for 27 consecutive years, generating millions in revenue for Minnesota Ballet and broadcasters combined. Fields has worked in many elements of theater as Artistic Director/Producer/Executive Director. Fields consulted with ballets, theaters and fundraising campaigns. Fields has served on Minnesota State Arts Council panels and foundation boards. Fields has taught dance history, dance composition, theater history, and ballet classes at the University of Minnesota and has been a visiting artist-in-residence at Saint Mary’s University and a visiting artistic director at Valencia Arts Center. Fields established Fields Ballet NYC, a non-profit organization designed to generate scholarships for young dancers and an annual Generational Mix production in 2016. In 2010, Fields traveled to China with Broadway Asia as a dance casting director working with the Tony winning director John Rando. Fields’ first two projects for The Verdon Fosse Legacy, The Global Fosse Festival and The Summer Professional Training Program were successful. Fields, as Director of Creative Development, will work closely with Nicole Fosse to achieve Legacy’s goals of securing a brighter future for America’s most exciting jazz dance form and theatrical legends of Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon.

Katherine is a multifaceted performer and theater maker. Behind the scenes, Katherine is the communications manager for the Superior Theater Festival, assistant to the artistic producer, Chilina Kennedy, of Eclipse Theater Company and also manages their mentorship, training and opportunities platform. She sits on the Jazz Dance Project Board of Directors and previously worked for Dance Lab New York (formerly Broadway Dance Lab) under Josh Prince. Since September 2020, she had been performing and rehearsing the only long-running pandemic-friendly show in New York City – VOYEUR: The Windows of Toulouse Lautrec. Originally from Toronto, Canada, Katherine graduated from NYU’s Tisch New Studio on Broadway with a BFA (Hons) in Theater. Katherine has performed and choreographed Off-Broadway, across New York, Toronto, regionally and on screen. She won the BroadwayWorld Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Lola in Damn Yankees.
