Hanoi (VNA) Vietnam and Azerbaijan have the potential to boost cooperation in various fields, especially in economy, trade and investment, Foreign Minister said Bui Thanh Son Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov said during their meeting in Hanoi on July 19.

FM Son said Vietnam is willing to continue to develop traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Azerbaijan.

He suggested that the two foreign ministries coordinate to increase delegation exchanges and continue to work closely together in international and regional organizations.

Deputy FM Elnour Mammadov commended Vietnam for its achievements in socio-economic development and international integration as well as its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He stressed that Azerbaijan wants to promote cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of economy-trade, investment, education-training, culture-tourism, transport, oil and gas. , and between their localities.

On the same day, Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc and his Azerbaijani counterpart co-chaired the second political consultation between the two foreign ministries, during which they discussed in depth bilateral relations and some international issues and regions of common interest.

The Vietnamese official noted that the economic partnership between the two countries remains modest, which does not correspond to their potential and traditional friendship.

He suggested the two sides take steps to promote ties and connectivity between their businesses and strengthen the role of the Vietnam-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Committee on Economic, Trade, Science and Technology Cooperation.

The Azerbaijani official proposed that the two sides maintain the political consultation mechanism and expand cooperation in potential areas such as oil and gas and logistics.

The two sides agreed to continue to coordinate in multilateral forums, contributing to peace, stability and the rule of law in the world.

Later, the two vice foreign ministers attended and spoke at a workshop on 30 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Azerbaijan. They witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and the ADA University of Azerbaijan./.
