PARK RAPIDS – Park Rapids received the No. 3 seed for the Section 8A Women’s Tennis Tournament.
The Panthers will open the quarter-finals of the section by taking on No. 6 Parkers Prairie at noon at Courts Plus in Fargo on Thursday, October 13. Park Rapids beat Parkers Prairie twice during the regular season by scores of 4-2 and 6-1.
In the other Section 8A quarterfinals, No. 2 Crookston takes on No. 7 Long Prairie-Grey Eagle and No. 4 Wadena-Deer Creek takes on No. 5 Roseau. 1 Staples-Motley receives a bye.
The semifinals are scheduled for 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Thursday with the section championship game scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m.
The Section 8A Individual Tournament begins at noon on Friday and ends on Saturday. In singles, Morgan Koppelman of Park Rapids is seeded No. 2 and Shailyn Hayes is seeded No. 9. Lauren Rutten of Staples-Motley was seeded No. 1. In doubles, Mickey Clark and Park Rapids’ Macy Goochey received the No. 3 seed while Emmy Goochey and Abby Runyan received the No. 10 seed. Crookston’s Halle Winjum and Emma Gunderson enter as the No. 1 seed and Katie Fiemeyer and Anna Fiemeyer of Wadena-Deer Creek received the No. 2 seed.
Park Rapids prepared for the Section Tournament with a 6-1 win over Parkers Prairie to close out the regular season on the Century School courts on Thursday, October 6.
The Panthers swept the doubles with Clark and Macy Goochey posting a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1; Emmy Goochey and Runyan coast to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2; and Kate Dravis and Rachel Ulvin winning 6-3, 7-5 at No. 3.
The winning singles matches in consecutive sets were Koppelman (6-2, 6-1) at No. 1, Hayes (6-3, 6-4) at No. 2 and Ella Ehler (6-1, 6-4 ) at No. 3. Park Rapids finished the season with an 8-12 record.
