Women’s tennis: Park Rapids splits doubles competition in Fergus Falls – Park Rapids Enterprise

FERGUS FALLS — The Park Rapids women’s tennis team won three tiebreakers to shutout Morris Area 7-0 and lost two tiebreakers in a 4-3 loss to Fergus Falls in a triangle encounter at Fergus Falls on Tuesday, August 23.

In the win over Morris Area, three straight singles wins paved the way.

Macy Goochey shut out Chloe Zimmel 6-0, 6-0 in singles No. 2 while Kate Dravis picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Lilia Asmus in singles No. 4. Ella Ehler added a victory of 6-3, 6-4 over No. 3 singles Izabell Hoffman.

Morgan Koppelman and Shailyn Hayes cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 win over Karlie Bruns and Ashley Koehl in doubles No. 1 for the other win in straight sets.

The other three matches were a tiebreaker in the third set. Mickey Clark rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 10-6 win over Claire Stark at No. 1 in singles. Emmy Goochey and Abby Runyan defeated Nora Meek and Elizabeth Pollard 6-4, 4-6, 10-1 in doubles No. 2. Nora Bolton and Rachel Ulvin took third place in doubles with a 4-6 victory, 6-4, 12-10 against Lydia Fynboh and Grace Hauglie.

Emma Morris and Madeline Brandt posted an 8-1 victory in a double exhibition match.

Fergus Falls dominated the tiebreaker in the bottom two singles matches to edge the Panthers.

Koppelman beat Isabelle Abrahams 7-6, 7-5 in singles No. 1 while Clark and Macy Goochey earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Hannah Anderson and Clara Stephan in doubles No. 1. Emmy Goochey and Runyan rallied for a 2-6, 7-6, 13-11 victory over Karley Braeger and Cyntreya Lockett in doubles No. 2.

Ruby Ellison beat Hayes 6-2, 6-2 in singles No. 2 and the duo of Hattie Fullhart and Kezi Hartwell beat Bolton and Ulvin 6-1, 6-1 in doubles No. 3. The Otters sealed victory with a pair of close battles in the other singles matches. Lelia Nasri edged Ehler 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 in singles No. 3 while Ashtyn Lill beat Dravis 6-3, 2-6, 10-6 in singles No. 4.

Fergus Falls shut out Morris Area 7-0 in the other game.

Those games marked the first doubleheaders of the season for the Panthers, who opened the season by placing seventh at the eight-team Park Rapids Invitational on August 20.

“We definitely have work to do, but it was the first college experience for a lot of the girls and I know they were nervous,” Park Rapids head coach Brianne Morris said of the first outings. Panthers of the season. “Once they realize they can play with anyone, things will be better.”
